GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WTVB) - Pioneer Seed in Cass County is being sued by migrant workers who claim they were underpaid, provided with unsafe housing and transportation and inadequate water when they were hired to detassel corn two summers ago. It was one of the hottest summers on record.
The suit names the parent company DuPont Pioneer and two recruiters. The 30-migrants from Texas claim violations of federal wage and migrant labor laws and have filed in Federal Court in Grand Rapids. The company denies the claims but says they are open to a settlement.
