ALMENA TOWNSHIP (WKZO) -- A 21-year-old Paw Paw resident is sitting in the Van Buren County Jail this Labor Day weekend, after he told police the only reason he tried to break into a home near Mattawan was because he needed to use the bathroom.
Van Buren County Deputies got a 9-1-1 call that some one was trying to break into a home in the 43-thousand block of Woodland Blvd. just after 6 Saturday morning.
They reported they thought they heard someone inside. When they investigated, all they found was a pair of shoes on the back porch and some screens missing or damaged.
One of the screens had been outside a bedroom where a 14-year-old boy was sleeping.
They heard a noise that sounded like limbs breaking on the northern edge of their property.
That’s where Deputies found the barefoot suspect, with one of the screens next to him.
He resisted but was quickly subdued and cuffed, making his excuses and claiming he knew the people in the house.
They did not know him.
He is being held for attempted home invasion and resisting arrest pending arraignment.
