KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- There is Good news for area residents who own stock in Pfizer and breast cancer patients.
The World’s largest drug maker and one of Kalamazoo’s larger employers has a promising breast cancer drug in the pipeline that has just successfully cleared a mid-stage drug trial. Tests show it significantly delayed the progression of symptoms.
It’s a pill called Palbociclib, but will be renamed if it ever goes into production.
Analysts say it could be a block-buster with sales of up to 5-billion dollars a year if approved.
They plan to take the results to the Food and Drug Administration to determine their next steps.
The FDA has already designated it a “breakthrough” drug and the hope is they may short cut trials and expedite approval if the results are promising enough.
Pfizer stock climbed 3.7% on news of the trial’s success.
