DETROIT (WKZO) -- CVS stores will no long sell cigarettes or other tobacco products at any of their 76-hundred CVS/pharmacy stores including the 249 stores across Michigan starting in October. CVS will become the first national pharmacy chain to eliminate tobacco sales.

Information from the company says that in Michigan, over 23-percent of adults are smokers and that smoking related costs come to more than seven-billion dollars.  Company CEO Larry J. Merlo says that ending the sale of tobacco products is the right thing to do.

"The significant action we're taking today by removing tobacco products from our retail shelves further distinguishes us in how we are serving our patients, clients and health care providers and better positions us for continued growth in the evolving health care marketplace," says Merlo.
