LAKELAND, FL (WTVB) - Tigers catcher Alex Avila is ready for Spring Training, showing up early to the team's facility in Lakeland, Florida for pre-camp workouts. Yesterday, Avila and others spent the day in the weight room. He avoided arbitration by signing a one-year contract worth over $4 million on January 31st.
Avila is not be the only member of the organization arriving before Spring Training officially begins, as new manager Brad Ausmus is expected to be at Joker Marchant Stadium today. Pitchers and catchers report for camp Friday, while the full squad will report next Monday.
