LANSING (WKZO) -- Just a few more days of temperatures in the 20’s this weekend and the big warm up is expected to begin next week.
It’s been a long cruel winter, and it’s probably not over yet, but for all the misery, some good will come out of it.
Melting snow will help replenish low lake levels and so will the ice cover now on the Great Lakes.
It will prevent evaporation. Climatologist Jeff Andresen says if we are lucky, the sub-zero temperature took out some invasive species, like the Emerald Ash Borer.
The deep snow may provide farmers with plenty of moisture for this year’s crops, but the deep freeze may have damaged some west Michigan fruit crops.
No one will know until spring.
