SOCHI, RUSSIA (WTVB) - At the Sochi Winter Olympics, the final day of preliminary round action in men’s hockey saw the United States and Russia come away with victories after their dramatic shootout from Saturday.  The Americans did not have a letdown after Saturday's victory, winning Group A and earning a bye into Wednesday's quarterfinals with a 5-1 decision yesterday over Slovenia. The Russians went to another shootout on Sunday and this time prevailed in a 1-0 win over Slovakia.

The U.S. women's ice hockey team is back in action today against Sweden in the semifinals. The United States and event host Russia are one back in the Winter Olympic medal count.  They both have 16 total, one behind the Netherlands.
