VAN BUREN COUNTY (WKZO) -- According to a news release from the Van BUren County Sheriff's Department, It began with two young men allegedly committing a dangerous prank and has ended with one of them dead and the other facing charges.
Last October, 24-year-old Seth Jones rushed 23-year-old Dakota Kearns into Bronson Hospital's Eemergency Unit, claiming his friend had fallen down a staircase.
Pathologists concluded that the injuries he suffered could not have been inflicted by a fall down a staircase.
This week after being confronted with the findings, Van Buren County Detectives says Jones admitted the two were stealing road signs.
Apparently Kearns was riding on top of Jone's car when it went around a bend, and Kearns fell off and suffered a fatal head injury.
Jones has been charged with three counts and is free on bond.
Deputies say the family of Dakota Kearns was glad to learn the truth about Dakota's death stating that it provided them with closure.
