DETROIT (WKZO) -- The IRS is warning the public that con-men posing as IRS Agents are calling victims and demanding that they pay up back taxes immediately or lose their driver’s licenses, and then follow up with a fake call from the Secretary of State’s Office, if you don’t cough up the cash.
I.R.S. Spokesman Luis Garcia says they will call up immigrant families and threaten to deport them if they don’t go out and get a money order.
Garcia says he finds it personally loathsome that they prey on the elderly and immigrants who are most vulnerable.
He says they know just enough about their victims to be convincing, they are aggressive and persistent.
He says the IRS just doesn’t work that way and folks should call their office and verify their status if they are concerned.
