VAN BUREN COUNTY (WKZO) -- It was all in the family. A woman who lives on 31st St. in Porter Township reported that someone had taken packages that had been delivered and left on the front porch of her home last week.
They contained candy, toys and video game accessories intended for a boy’s birthday, various toiletries and two gift cards, one for Meijers and another for Kohls.
Theft prevention officers were able to track serial numbers to determine when the cards were used and pulled up the surveillance video.
Deputies say the victim identified the thief as her sister-in-law, and she confessed when confronted with the evidence.
They claim she said admitted she threw most of the items away, saying she “felt guilty”.
The sister-in-law has been charged with two felony counts for larceny of the two gift cards, and two misdemeanors for stealing and destroying the other items.
