KALAMAZOO (WKZO) WMU officials plan to heat things up in the New Year after Chilling on campus over the holiday break. It’s a lot less exciting than it sounds.
The Western Michigan University campus has been a cold dark place since Christmas Eve.
They have a central control system that allows them to control 3-thousand thermostats in 75 buildings, and knowing that Campus would be deserted for a week, they dialed it back to 55 degrees.
Some labs and other facilities that needed to be heated were exempted.
They think it will shave about 140-thousand dollars off their energy bill but that depends partially on how cold the weather has been...a figure they will calculate when they turn the heat back up and reopen campus on Thursday.
