MINNEAPOLIS, MN (WTVB) - Michigan held on last night to win its Big Ten opener with a 63-60 victory at Minnesota. The Wolverines, who improved to 9-and-4, lost star sophomore forward Glen Robinson the Third to a left ankle injury early in the second half and his status is unknown for Michigan’s home game Sunday vs. Northwestern. The Wolverines will also be going forward, probably for the rest of the season, without center Mitch McGary, who has been battling a bad back that will reportedly require surgery. Freshman Zak Irvin scored 15 points in the win over Minnesota while Jon Horford and Nik Stauskas had 14 points apiece with 9 rebounds for Horford and 7 assists for Stauskas.
Tomnorrow in the Big Ten, fifth ranked Michigan State plays at Indiana.
Elsewhere last night, Western Michigan had no trouble beating Siena Heights 83-47 in Kalamazoo as the Broncos improved to 7-and-5 with their Mid-American Conference opener coming up Wednesday at home against Toledo.
