NEW ORLEANS, LA (WTVB) - Michigan State can’t win the national title this season but the 4th-ranked Rose Bowl champion Spartans are expected to move up in next week’s final polls following a big upset in the Sugar Bowl. Number-11 Oklahoma last night beat the heavily favored and third-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide 45-31 at the Superdome in New Orleans.

The Spartans arrived back in East Lansing last night and were greeted by a group of fans on campus who braved the bitter cold to cheer on the team after their New Year’s Day 24-20 victory over Stanford in Pasadena. A formal celebration of MSU’s 13-and-1 season is reportedly planned for Wednesday night at the Breslin Center.

Two more bowl games are set for tonight with Ohio State vs. Clemson in the Orange Bowl while Oklahoma State and Missouri clash in the Cotton Bowl. The BCS National Championship will be decided Monday night at the Rose Bowl when number-one Florida State plays second-ranked Auburn.
