ELKHART, IN (WTVB) - They are calling it a new strategy to deal with gunman threatening mass murder, but it’s actually as old as the hills. When confronted with a gunman randomly killing strangers inside a grocery store Wednesday night in Elkhart Indiana, the first arriving city officers didn’t set up a perimeter and call for SWAT. Instead police say they went inside and stopped the killing.

22-year-old Shawn Bair of Elkhart had already killed two women, one a 44-year old shopper, the other a 20-year old store employee. The police found Bair near the middle of the store, brandishing his handgun and a knife and an officer shot and killed him. It’s the latest strategy being taught to law enforcement agencies to deal with school and theatre shootings, to go in and stop the killers.  There’s still no word on a possible motive for the Elkhart shootings.
