KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) - It's Oscar season, and while a man from southwest Michigan could be up for an acting award, area police agencies would rather slap him in handcuffs and cart him off to jail. Some one has been getting his jollies calling 9-1-1 in Kalamazoo County and making false police reports. In the cyber world, it's nicknamed “SWATTING”, because the false reports often are about gun violence and that means SWAT teams are deployed at considerable expense to taxpayers.
Kalamazoo Count Undersheriff Paul Matyas says its not just a prank, it can endanger lives. Apparently the caller has been at it since last spring and has called other agencies. Matyas would like the public to listen to the tape to see if they recognize the voice.
