LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Healh officials say six peole have died so far this seaon from the flu in west Michigan.  All of them are over 50. Three have also died in Oakland County, all in their 20’s, as the number of new infections continues rise. It’s really impossible to know how many statewide have died from complications of flu, because the virus is often just one of the problems the patient is dealing with.

There is no reporting mandate for adults, only young children.  One infant has died in central Michigan and 20 nationwide. Dr. Victoria Dooley says young adults with underlying health issues seem vulnerable this year. She stresses it’s not too late for a flu shot. The National Centers for Disease Control says about 40% of the population has been inoculated, but that percentage shrinks among young adults.
