KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A small flotilla of kayakers launched their boats into the Kalamazoo River Sunday morning planning an invigorating run with the freezing cold current.
Apparently they didn’t know that downstream this exceedingly cold winter had frozen the river over in spots.
All 11 got stuck in the river near Fort Custer Drive.
The ice was too thick to break through and too weak to walk on.
Galesburg/Comstock Rescue arrived with wet suits and delivered ropes to the paddlers who were pulled to shore one by one. There were no injuries.
