UNDATED (WNWN) - The National Weather Service says southwest Michigan is heading into an arctic blast this week and next that could maybe be nearly as cold as the Polar Vortex with one big difference. Meteorologist Bob Dukesherer at the National Weather Service office in Grand Rapids says this time it could stick around for a while longer. The first vortex in early January took hold for about 3 days. He said this event is expected to be felt for the bulk of this week and then possibly it could turn even colder next weekend into the next week. He says this week we will see highs in the teens with lows some nights dipping below zero, before you factor in the wind chill.
Just as December went down as one of the snowiest, January could be recorded as one of the coldest on record.
