KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) - There are no recent flu activity updates from the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency, but in Kalamazoo County, health officials have confirmed a third flu death in the county. Just like the other two, it was a person over 50 with other medical issues. Health Director Linda Vail says concern about the H1N1 virus has been overblown. Unlike 2009, when it was a brand new virus, and caused a pandemic, this year it’s covered by the vaccine most people get.
The death this week brings the total number of adult deaths in West Michigan to seven. Statewide figures are not available because there is no reporting requirement in Michigan for adult flu deaths.
