DETROIT (WKZO) -- Governor Rick Snyder is in Washington for the National Governor’s Conference, and while he is in D.C. he plans to pitch a request to the Federal Government to send 50-thousand work visas to Detroit to help repopulate and grow the city.

In order to qualify for an EB-2 visa, an immigrant has to have an advanced degree and a job offer for a job an American can’t be found to fill.

Snyder announced his plan at a news conference in Detroit yesterday.

He would be asking for about a quarter of all the work visas issued each year by the Federal Government, and to have the rules about eligibility waived, which could result in the idea being rejected.
