KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Area School districts are canceling classes as wind chill factors are expected to dip well below zero. It could get even worse this afternoon.
It will begin with extreme cold, mix in a fair amount of snow and ad high winds with gusts of up to 30 to 40 miles per hour and you have a prescription for a very bad day, with drifting and white out conditions by the evening commute possible.
We could see the kinds of conditions that led to that massive chain reaction collision near the Indiana border yesterday afternoon.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Ernie Ostuno says its colder in the southern counties because the arctic air is coming from the South West, south of Lake Michigan, negating the moderating influence of the Lake Effect.
You will need to bundle up If you head out this morning.
Fortunately many of the kids won’t have to.
A winter weather advisory has been issued until 7 a.m. Saturday morning.
Ostuno says there will be more snow over the weekend with even colder temperatures settling into the area early next week.
