HARTFORD (WKZO) -- A stretch of I-94 near Hartford was closed for over six hours Monday evening due to three separate traffic crashes caused in part by blowing snow and icy roads.

Eastbound I-94 between mile markers 44 and 48 saw at least sixteen semi trucks and numerous passenger cars involved in the crashes that began around 5 p.m. Troopers were still clearing parts of the area until late Tuesday morning, with aid coming from state police posts in Coldwater, Niles, and Wayland to assist troopers from the Paw Paw post.

Michigan State Police are asking drivers to be especially cautious in the stretch of I-94 near Hartford as the area will remain extremely icy until temperatures begin to rise and melting agents can begin to work on roadways.
