EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ (WTVB) - It was the annual Super Bowl Media Day Tuesday but no noteworthy quotes or bulletin-board material emerged from the player interviews with the throng of reporters in the New York City area to cover Sunday’s Denver-Seattle matchup at MetLife Stadium. Meanwhile, a pair of coaches with Detroit connections are emerging in Dallas with the Cowboys' major offseason shakeup to their sideline staff. Former Lions’ head coach Rod Marinelli has been elevated from defensive line coach in Dallas to defensive coordinator while ex-Detroit offensive coordinator Scott Linehan is taking over as the team’s play-caller in the Big-D. Linehan was let go by the Lions after this season when Jim Caldwell was named Detroit’s new head coach following the firing of Jim Schwartz.
former Lions running back Jahvid Best is suing the NFL and helmet maker Riddell in Wayne County Circuit Court. Best’s career was cut short due to concussions, and he is seeking damages of over $25,000. The “Detroit Free Press” reports Best also has a worker’s compensation claim pending against the Lions and tried to get back into the game after doctors refused to give him medical clearance. His lawsuit alleges the NFL did not do enough to protect players despite knowing the risks of head injuries.
