KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The Kalamazoo School Board has selected Mollie Peterson to fill a vacancy on the board of trustees, caused by the death of former trustee Lonnie Duncan.
Board members praised the ten applicants, saying they all brought special qualifications to the table and they were urged to run in this fall's election for school board. .
In the end they voted 6 to 0 for Peterson because of her experience.
Board members said she was a strong advocate for children and she will be able to hit the ground running when she rejoins the board.
Petersen was first appointed to the board in 2005 and then won her own term.
Peterson says she would run again this fall to keep the seat.
