GALESBURG (WKZO) -- The heartbroken friends and relatives of a 16-year-old from Galesburg who was struck and killed by a train on Monday held a candlelight vigil Tuesday evening to remember Tyler Beischl.
Sgt. Jeff Heppler says the video from the Amtrak Train suggests the teen just didn’t see the train coming and never knew what hit him.
A noisy road construction crew nearby probably drowned out the sound of the train headed his way.
Heppler says they are waiting for autopsy results and have some more interviews to do, but it looks like it was just a tragic accident.
He says the train was going about 60-mph and when it hit Beischl, it threw the teen about 100 feet from the tracks.
About four dozen people attended the vigil.
