Tigers begins two game series with Dodgers tonight with A-L Central down to 3 1/2 games

DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - The first place Tiger’s lead in the American League Central has slipped to 3-and-a-half games after Detroit was idle yesterday and the second place Kansas City Royals last night beat the Rays 6-0 in the opener of a three game series at Tampa Bay. The Rays last weekend won 3 in-a-row at Detroit to finish off a 4-game series with the Tigers.

Detroit wraps up a 9 game home stand this week with a brief 2-game interleague matchup of division leaders, taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight and tomorrow afternoon and then the Tigers head to Kansas City for a 4-game series with the Royals beginning Thursday.

Tonight, Justin Verlander starts for Detroit against the Dodgers and while he’s struggled this season with a 7-7 record, Verlander looks to extend his unbeaten run against National League teams to 14 straight starts. The Dodgers, who were also off yesterday, lead the N-L West by a half game over the Giants.

Monday’s schedule of 14 games included the White Sox winning 4-0 last night at Boston while the Cubs fell 9-3 at Cincinnati.
