KALMAZOO (WKZO) -- Two Public Safety officers who shot rape suspect Brad Mason on the front stoop of an apartment house on Dutton St. last February will find out today if the prosecutor thinks it was a justifiable use of force.
The 42-year-old was a registered sex offender suspected in the kidnap and rape of a 24-year-old woman the week before. Mason confronted the Public Safety officers who appeared to take him in for questioning, with what turned out to be a pellet gun.
The two officers who shot him have long since been cleared by an internal department investigation and returned to work.
That’s why it’s just a little surprising that Prosecutor Jeff Getting plans a news conference this afternoon to discuss “possible charges arising out of the shooting”.
We plan to be there.
