KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Michigan courts used to be split into three divisions at the local level. District judges, Circuit Judges and Probate judges, each handling a specific kind of case.
Those lines have been blurring for in Kalamazoo and Judge Gary Giguere says they may soon be erased.
He says most people won’t even notice the difference.
He says it will allow them to reassign judges to handle the case load more efficiently rather than being stuck in silos. It may also allow them to assign a judge to the area of the courts that may be more suited to their experience and preferences.
The state wants to cut costs and Judge Giguere says doing it their own way will mean they can avoid having a system that may not work as well imposed on them later.
