Former Dallas running back great Robert Newhouse passes away

ROCHESTER, MN (WTVB) - Former Dallas Cowboys running back Robert Newhouse is dead.  The 64-year-old passed away Tuesday at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota due to heart disease.  He was picked out of Houston in the second round of the 1972 NFL draft and played 12 seasons for Tom Landry.  Newhouse became the first running back to throw a touchdown in the Super Bowl when he tossed a 29-yard pass to Golden Richards in Super Bowl 12.

Newhouse was inducted into the University of Houston Athletics Hall of Honor in 1977.  He's also the fifth leading rusher in Cowboys history.
