KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- One of Kalamazoo’s new Peregrine Falcons has been given a name. A contest organized by Fifth Third Bank, produced the name “Promise”.
The birds are nesting on a ledge on the Fifth Third bank building downtown.
The chick suffered injuries on an early attempt to fly and while the young predator was recuperating at the Nature Center, it was given an I.D. band.
All peregrines that get banded, are given names for an official registry, making it possible to keep track of the once endangered species.
Fifth-Third accepted suggested names from residents and a local panel picked the winner on Friday.
The panel felt that Promise the Peregrine echoes the Kalamazoo Promise and sounds good, because of the alliteration.
