AMES, IOWA (WKZO)-- The WMU Sunseeker remains in 7th place in the American Solar Challenge and has completed Stage three of the race using only solar power.
The University of Michigan solar car remained in first place.
Race officials allow teams to put their solar car on a trailer to complete stages if the car has mechanical problems or runs out of juice.
There is a time penalty assessed when a team has to trailer its solar racer.
During stage three, WMU’s Solar team had to swap out a set of wheel bearings in the rear wheels of the Sunseeker and fix the brakes in one of their chase vehicles, but still managed to complete the stage using only solar power.
As the race entered Iowa, headed toward the finish line in Minneapolis on Monday, the University of Michigan solar team continued to dominate the event.
