GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO) -- Former Christian Broadcaster John Balyo told a federal judge yesterday exactly what he did to a young boy at a Kalamazoo motel.
As part of his plea deal he had to explain his crime and how he tied and cuffed a 12-year old boy to a bed and had sex with him, using a camera and an I-phone to record the assault.
He then paid the boy in cash.
Defense attorney David Dodge says Balyo’s plea will mean the victim won’t have to testify.
U.S. Attorney Pat Miles says Balyo faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years for sexual exploitation and child pornography.
Balyo will be sentenced November 6th.
He faces more serious charges in Calhoun County that could mean up to life in prison if he is convicted. .
In exchange for the plea, Balyo won’t face additional charges in federal court, but will be compelled to testify against Ronald Moser of Battle Creek, the man charged with procuring young boys for Balyo.
