BRONSON, MI (WTVB) - The suspect accused of assaulting a Bronson fireman at the scene of blaze in Matteson Township was formally charged yesterday in Branch County District Court on two counts of assault. Authorities say 28-year old Aaron VanVorst of Colon also assaulted a utility worker outside the burning farm house on Wattles Road.

Branch County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested VanVorst after he confronted one of the first firefighters to arrive early Tuesday afternoon. A Consumers Energy employee was also allegedly a target of VanVorst, who reportedly went on his rant because he felt for some reason that the fire department was too slow in getting there to douse the flames which gutted the residence owned by Jeff and Gayle VanVorst.

Aaron Van Vorst was released from the Branch County jail last night after posting $35,000 bond. He’s due back in court for a preliminary examination on June 26th.
