Tigers drop third straight, White Sox cruise to 8-2 win

by

Chicago, IL (WKZO) – The Chicago White Sox broke open a 1-1 tie with seven runs in the sixth inning en route to a 8-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night at US Cellular Field.

Justin Verlander (6-6) was credited with seven earned runs allowed over 5.2 innings while suffering his fourth loss in his last five starts. The Tigers ace gave up eight hits and four walks while striking out six before being cashed in the sixth inning. Verlander’s ERA jumped from 4.19 to 4.61, his highest this late in the season since 2008.

The White Sox had been held by Verlander to just three hits and one run before the sixth, but batted around while scoring the seven runs. Jose Abreu smacked his 19th home run in the 2nd inning for the White Sox first run.

Torii Hunter and Raja Davis each had an RBI for the Tigers who have lost three in a row and eight of their last 10.

The Tigers look to right the ship on Thursday night in the final game of their rain shortened three-game series against the White Sox. Max Scherzer (7-2, 3.38 ERA) gets the nod for the Tigers, and will face off against Chris Sale (5-0, 2.06). First pitch is set for 8:10pm.
