Chicago, IL (WKZO) – It took Max Scherzer 179 career starts to get his first career complete game, as he finally reached the accomplishment after tossing a three-hitter shutout in his first career complete game as the Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago White Sox 4-0 on Thursday night at US Cellular Field.

Scherzer struck out eight and walked three for his eighth win of the year, while outpitching Sox starter Chris Sale. Sale (5-1) struck out 10 over seven innings, while allowing just one run on a solo homer to Victor Martinez, his 16th.

Miguel Cabrera had a two-run single in the eighth inning for the Tigers, while Bryan Holiday drove in an insurance run in the ninth.

The Tigers return to Comerica Park for a three-game series with the Minnesota Twins starting on Friday night.
