Two Battle Creek men formally charged with murder

BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) -- The suspects in Battle Creek’s latest homicide have now been formally charged.

Christopher Felton and Ghermell Bolden are being held without bond for the shooting death of 27-year-old Allyn Reeve Jr. during what police say was a home invasion early Tuesday morning.

Reeve called 9-1-1 about 4:45 a.m., saying someone was breaking into his home. When police arrived, they found him suffering from a fatal chest wound.

Police were able to quickly identify suspects, tracked Felton to a mobile home park where he was arrested after he tried to escape.

Bolden turned himself in after he heard that Police were looking for him. They are charged with felony murder, armed robbery, home invasion and multiple gun charges.

Felton is also charged with being a four-time repeat offender, and refused to cooperate during his video arraignment, claiming he was a “Sovereign Citizen” and not subject to U.S. or State law.

The judge was not impressed and ordered that both be back in court on July 3rd for preliminary hearing.

BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) -- A man who attempted to hang himself in the Calhoun County Jail back on May 25th has now died from the injuries he inflicted on himself. 64-year-old Richard Willavize was being held prior to sentencing for a domestic abuse complaint that escalated into unlawful imprisonment, assault and weapons charges when he became engaged in an armed stand-off with police last October, at his home on Gorsline Road.He was facing up to 2 years for using a gun and 15-years on the other charges at sentencing later this month. His suicide is under investigation, to determine if jail procedures could have prevented it or failed to stop it.

NEW YORK (WKZO) -- A major recall has been issued for Velveeta in the Midwest. Most cheeses need to age a little before they are ready for market, but Velveeta isn’t cheese. Its processed cheese food and aging isn’t good for it. Kraft is now issuing a recall for 260 cases sent to Walmart Stores because it doesn’t contain enough preservatives. They say it could spoil prematurely or worse, become a medium for food-bourne illnesses. The improperly manufactured cheese-like substance was sent to 3 Walmart distribution centers and could now be scattered in kitchens in 12 Midwestern states including Michigan. If you shop at Walmart, you may want to take it back or toss it.[The code on the recalled packages is 021000611614.]
