KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Teenagers are dying for a drink, and last night a number of organizations, non-profits, school systems and community groups, even some alcohol retailers gathered at the EPIC center to find ways to better coordinate their efforts and complete their mission, which is to keep kids from obtaining and consuming alcohol.
Tonya Collins is director of the Kalamazoo County Substance Abuse Task Force.
She says they have found teens as young as 13-years-old getting drunk on a regular basis.
She says any one who is regularly exposed before they are 15, are likely to become alcoholics later on.
She says it’s no easy task, especially when they don’t always get the cooperation of parents.
The united effort is being “Above the Influence Kalamazoo!”
