UNDATED (WHTC) -- Potholes, they’re hard to miss. MDOT posted tips on how to drive during Michigan’s “Pothole Season.” Record cold and snow have created what authorities are calling one of Michigan’s worst pothole season ever. While avoiding potholes is always best, a properly maintained vehicle and tires can help minimize the damage. Avoid tailgating. By keeping distance between yourself and the vehicle in front of you, you can spot a pothole before hitting it. Another suggestion is to slow down when you see a pothole, then release the brakes before hitting it. MDOT spent $8.8 million dollars on pothole repairs last year and will most likely double that amount for this year.
