LANSING, MI (WTVB) - It’s now official. The state of Michigan has announced that the expansion of Medicaid will first be available on April 1, 2014, and they are not fooling. It ends any uncertainty about the program being pushed back even further than the three month delay that has angered Democrats.
Gilda Jacobs at the Michigan League for Public Policy says it means half a million more working poor in Michigan will have healthcare.
April 1 will be the date that the Michigan Department of Community Health will take applications from those who fall under the income limits. The Governor calls it the Healthy Michigan Plan and says the computer website that has been developed to handle enrollment has been thoroughly tested.
