NEW YORK (WKZO) -- The Connecticut Huskies are heading to the Final Four after beating fourth-seeded Michigan State 60-54 in the East Regional final from New York City.
The Spartans were the favorites of a lot of the pundits and experts, even the President had them going all the way.
Tom Izzo says they just didn’t bring their “A” game to Madison Square Garden against Uconn.
State started slow, spotting Connecticut to a ten point lead in the opening minutes.
The Spartans managed to take a 9 point lead in the second half, but then Uconn went on an 18 to 4 run. Michigan State managed to recover, closing the gap to 2 points with less than three minutes to play but a spurt by Uconn was the dagger. .
Izzo says it was a great season considering all the adversity they had during the year and congratulated the team for a great run.
The seventh-seeded Huskies face South Regional champion Florida next Saturday at the home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys.
This is UConn's first trip to the national semifinals since winning it all in 2011.
