COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - State Police are looking for the vandals who trashed the facilities at four Michigan highway rest stop areas early Monday morning. Troopers from the Coldwater Post are part of the investigation. The first complaint came in around 5 a.m. yesterday about the rest area on I-94 near Marshall. Then it was discovered the sinks, urinals and toilets had also been smashed at the rest areas near Dundee, in Jackson County and just west of Galesburg along I-94.
MDOT says the rest areas have reopened using alternative facilities. They should all be repaired by this weekend at an estimated cost of about $33,000. After the first report was filed yesterday, State Police checked out the Michigan Welcome Center rest stop on northbound I-69 in southern Branch County but no damage was located there.
