DETROIT (WKZO) -- Leo Sharp won the bronze star fighting in Italy during World War Two, raised a family and led a respectful life until he became a Drug Mule for a Mexican Cartel.
Yesterday was his 90th birthday, but there was no celebration.
They estimate he hauled over a ton of cocaine along I-94, through Kalamazoo and Battle Creek to its destination in Detroit, and he was paid a million dollars for his efforts.
Yesterday a federal judge sentenced Sharp, who lives in Michigan CIty, to 3-years in a federal prison for being a drug smuggler.
Sharp claimed drug lord “El Chapo” threatened to kill his family if he didn’t run their drugs.
His attorney asked for leniency, given his age, his war record and his dementia.
Federal prosecutors had asked for five years and sentencing guidelines say the minimum should be 14 years.
