KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A pit bull that had never exhibited aggressive behavior before has been shot to death by a Kalamazoo Public Safety officer.
The officer was investigating an assault complaint Thursday evening in the 16-hundred block of Lay Boulevard, when the dog bolted out the front door and charged him.
He retreated but the dog kept coming, biting him twice on the leg, and witnesses say it continued to attack even after the officer shot him twice.
A third shot ended the assault.
The dog died at the scene.
The name of the officer was not released.
An internal review of every shooting is conducted by the office of professional standards.
The officer was treated and released.
