DETROIT (WKZO) -- One of the five defendants charged with beating Steven Utash on Detroit's east side is free on bond and denying any involvement.
Nineteen-year-old Latrez Cummings describes the assault saying that the circumstances escalated when people rushed to help the child Utash accidentally hit with his vehicle last month. Cummings says he was one of the people in the street that day, but walked off when the violence started.
Utash spent one week in a coma and is now being treated at a rehabilitation center. Trial is scheduled in August for Cummings and the three other adults that prosecutors say participated.
