KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo City Commissioners will be meeting for a work-session Monday evening for an update on the current status of the Allied Paper dump site.
The Environmental Protection Agency has agreed to a city request that they delay announcing their preferred method of addressing contamination at the site for a few months, to allow more time to discuss alternatives to simply capping the wastes and leaving the land unusable.
Kalamazoo City Manager Jim Ritsema has also scheduled a discussion on Priority Based Budgeting. Its proponents tout it as a new concept, but it’s really pretty simple. If you don’t have the cash, something has to be cut.
Identifying the priorities and getting the public to agree is the tricky part.
The session gets underway at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
