BALTIMORE, MARYLAND (WTVB) - The Tigers began a 9 game road trip last night with a 4-1 win at Baltimore. Rick Porcello picked up his fifth straight victory to improve to 6-1. Things got a bit testy in the eighth inning after Ian Kinsler hit a two run homer off Baltimore starter Bud Norris to finish out the scoring on the night. The next batter for the Tigers was Torii Hunter and Norris hit Hunter in the ribcage with a 94 mph fastball. Benches and bullpens cleared after the incident which featured both players jawing at each other. Norris was ejected. The start of the game was delayed 35 minutes by rain.
Porcello allowed a run on 5-hits with no walks over six innings while Joe Nathan worked a perfect ninth for his eighth save. Detroit’s 22-12 record gives them the best winning percentage in the majors. Drew Smyly gets the start tonight for the Tigers in the middle game of the 3-game series.
The Chicago White Sox lost 5-4 at Oakland while the Cubs’ offense exploded for a 17-5 win at St. Louis.
