LANSING, MI (WTVB) - The Michigan House has approved a bill that would turn the state’s licensed Casinos into an extension of the Friend of the Court. Any parent who owes child support would have it confiscated from any winnings at the casino. The law would require that casinos check a registry to see if any winners appear on it.
The bill is sponsored by Republican Ken Kurtz of Coldwater. He says, “If you aren’t paying your child support, then it’s not acceptable to spend money gambling”. Kurtz is chairman of the House Families, Children and Seniors committee. It’s not clear if the state can compel an Indian casino to comply with the law, but they probably could with the Detroit casinos.
