Detroit, MI (WKZO) – The Detroit Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak on Friday night with a 7-2 victory over the Texas Rangers.
Anibal Sanchez (2-2) tossed seven innings, allowing two earned runs, both coming in the second, on five hits while striking out five and walking zero. The Rangers tagged Sanchez for two runs in the second inning on three straight hits, but Sanchez responded by setting down 15 of the next 16 Rangers he faced.
Austin Jackson and Andrew Romine each homered for the Tigers. Jackson hit his third home run of the year in the second inning, a two-run shot, tying the game at two. Romine’s long ball was the first of his career and gave the Tigers a 6-2 lead in the sixth inning. Both home runs came off Rangers’ starter Scott Baker (0-1), who allowed six runs and eight hits. Baker struck out one and walked a pair.
Ian Kinsler had three doubles and scored three times. Torii Hunter had two RBIs despite going 0-for-4. Al Alburquerque and Ian Krol pitched scoreless innings in relief.
Rick Porcello (7-1, 2.91 ERA) takes the mound for the Tigers on Saturday against Rangers’ starter Nick Martinez (0-1, 2.88). First pitch is set for 4:08pm.
