BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) -- A 51-year old Battle Creek woman required stitches and shots after she was the victim of an unprovoked attack by a pit bull at 9 a.m. Sunday.
The 51-year-old victim told Battle Creek police that she was walking down the sidewalk on Spring Street when the dog, which was tied up to a small tree in the yard of a home lunged at her, snapping the small tree and leaving it free to carry out the attack.
The dog’s owner came out and pulled the dog off the woman, and put the animal in the house, but not before the victim had suffered serious bites to her midsection.
The owner later surrendered the dog to Animal Control Officers who will hold it in quarantine for a week to make sure it wasn’t infected.
The owner was cited, and could face additional charges after the prosecutor reviews the investigation.
