OAKLAND, CA (WTVB) -The Detroit Tigers were taken down by the A’s 3-1 last night as Oakland rallied to win on a Josh Donaldson walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth. The deciding blast was surrendered by Detroit closer Joe Nathan, who has 4 blown saves. It was Detroit’s eighth loss in ten games but not because of Anibal Sanchez, who fanned 9 batters while giving up only 3 hits in his pitcher’s duel with Oakland’s Scott Kazmir, who struck out eight in a complete game effort.
Torii Hunter hit a solo fourth inning homer for the Tiger’s lone run. Detroit will send Rick Porcello to the mound this afternoon as they try to earn a split in the 4-game series at Oakland.
The Chicago White Sox beat the Indians 3-2 last night in Chicago with the win pulling them to within four games of the division leading Tigers in the American League Central. And the Cubs yesterday afternoon were shutout 5-0 at San Francisco.
